January 2016 To June 2016

I. Child Rights Programme : With the New Year 2016, QWARIDS marched ahead with more innovation and commitment with our ongoing various child rights programmes, women empowerment and community development programmes in our working Areas.

  • Gram Panchayat level Child Protection Committee meetings : On 9th of March at Betta Ulsoor, 11th April at Sulibele, 26th at Bagaluru, 20th of June at Marenahalli, 30th June 2016 at Sonnapannahalli, QWARIDS organized Child Protection Committee meetings at gram panchayat level meetings to sensitize on their roles and responsoiblities to prevent early marriages and Child labour practices in their respective panchayats. Panchayat president & members, govt. school HMs, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, AN/PNs, Revenue inspector and SHG leaders actively participated in the meetings.
  • Formation of Child Clubs : From the month of January 2016 onwards, we formed 45 Child clubs in various schools in our target areas for the purpose of ensuring and informing child marriage and child labour incidences and child right violation to the respective persons.
  • Oath Taking by Adolescent Boys and Girls at Nanda Gudi high school & college, Sulibele Muraji Residential School : More than 1250 adolescent boys and girls jointly took collect mass oath 2nd, and 4th of March 2016 against Child Marriage and Child Labour. After QWARIDS conducted series of education programme on the subject, all the students jointly took mass oath that they would not marry before 18 years nor encourage any members in the family to marry before 18 years. The programme was facilitated by Mr.Venkatesh and presided over by Head mistresses, vice principal and managements.
  • Village Child Protection Committee : From the month of April 2016 onwards, QWARIDS promoted 14 Village Child Protection Committees (VCPC) at community level. The overall aim of the committee is to identify vulnerable child marriage cases and incidences and bring it to the notice of panchayat thereby ensure prevention of child marriage and protection of child rights.
  • Taluk and district Level of Workshop : On May 26th, conducted District and Taluk level govt. workshop at Bangalore rural District zilla panchayat office. Totally 109 government persons such as Women and Child dept, Police Dept, Social Welfare Dept, Education Dept, panchayat Raj Dept, Health Dept, Child Line, CWC, POSCO, DCPO, CMPOs, Elected members, and non government persons officers' took active participation in the workshop. The key theme was how to prevent child marriages effectively with active support of govt. officials. The participants resolved to educate and create awareness in villages, schools, colleges to concerned communities people.
  • Angwadi workers Circle meetings : On 29th June 2016, QWARIDS convened Angawadi workers circle meeting at Sulibele. 45 Anganawadi workers participated. During the meeting we discussed about how Angwadi workers could prevent child marriages without becoming victims of local politics and finding alternate solutions to protect and prevent Child marriages completely in their communities.

II. Born Learning Campaign: with continued effort among 10 govt. Anganawadi centers, the followings are enrolment details;

  • Enrolment : Totally 255(116 boys and 139 girls), children were enrolled for the year 2015-16 in 10 Anganwadi centres of Marathalli and Yamlur Zone. By providing additional learning materials and conducting regular & periodical assessment of children, the early learning abilities such as gross motor, fine motor, sensory, cognitive, linguistic and personal skills of children were enhanced and mainstreamed 124 children to formal schools
  • Greening govt. Anganawadi centers : From the month of January 2016, we concentrated on green cover to govt. anganawadi centers by planting more than 1000 plants and nutrition saplings, vegetable gardening, etc. We have sensitized mothers committee members to contribute time for maintaining these greening Anganwadi centers.
  • Health campaigns for mother and children : Quarterly health camps were conducted benefiting all 255 children in 10 BLCs. In the month of February, in order to enhance health of children, PHC doctors organized De-worming Campaign in all Anganwadi centers administered De-worming tablets to all children in 10 BLCs. In the month of January and February we joined with PHC and Anganwadi teachers to given polio vaccination to all children in 10 BLCs. 198 children were provided De-worming tablets and polio drops. Regular visits by Health Inspector Mr.Manoharan and Nurse Ms.Ambika and sensitized AN/PN mothers on prevention of Malaria, Dengue and chicken guinea diseases in the month of June 2016. A General health camp was organized by govt. doctors benefiting 255 children and 300 general public. Breast feeding awareness program conducted for 55 ANC/PNC mother by PHC doctors in 10 BLCs.
  • World Polio day and De-worming campaign : In the month of January and February 2016, QWARIDS staff joined with local PHC and Anganwadi teachers to given polio vaccination to all children in 10 BLCs. 198 children were provided De-worming tablets and polio drops.
  • Health Awareness to Mothers of Anganwadi centers : Health Inspector Mr.Manoharan and Nurse Ms.Ambika sensitized AN/PN mothers on prevention of Malaria, Dengue and chicken guinea diseases in the month of June 2016 in all Centers.
  • General health camp : QWARIDS organized a general health camp with the support of govt. doctors from Vibhuthipura at Sanjaynagar BLC benefiting all children and 300 general public. Breast feeding awareness program conducted for 55 ANC/PNC mother by PHC doctors in 10 BLCs.
  • Mothers Committee : Initially, the Mothers’ committees were not functioning or formed in few BLCs. QWARIDS visited and interacted with Teachers and mothers and conducted 2 each orientation session in all 10 BLCs. As a result, we have 10 mothers’ committees functional in all 10 BLCs. And now all mothers’ committees are functioning with increased participation of AN/PN mothers; we participated in 10 mothers committee meetings in the month of June and July 2016; key subjects discussed were; health and hygiene, prevention of early marriages and five developments of children, and precautionary measures to use gap in Anganawadi centers.

III. Social and Economic Empowerment of 50 women at Thriveni Nagar, Bangalore : In the month of January and March 2016, series of Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes were provided by Ms.Joyce perera, Ms.Bhavani, and Mr.Radha Krishna to 65 beneficiaries on various micro enterprises. Seed money of Rs.5,50,000/- for four SHGs benefiting totally 65 sangha women was provided. As a result the SHG members were able to take up various enterprises like petty shops, fruit/vegetable vending, food vending etc, and increased their monthly income.
